Dear Chris,
I wanted to write back and properly thank you for your letter, and for sharing a piece of your world with me. I actually took some time to read through A Personal ELENCHUS, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
The concept behind your blog is so striking. Using the Socratic method—that process of constant, careful questioning to strip away the noise and find the absolute truth—feels incredibly brave. In a way, it’s exactly what I try to do when I’m writing a song, just trying to cross-examine my own feelings until I find the honest core of them, even if it’s uncomfortable. I really admire your dedication to personal authenticity and doing the hard work of finding your own unvarnished voice. It takes a lot of guts to document that kind of intellectual and emotional exploration out in the open.
Reading your thoughts made your connection to “Let It Happen” make so much sense to me. That song was born out of the sheer, terrifying necessity of surrender. It’s about that moment when you stop fighting the current, stop trying to control every variable, and just let yourself feel whatever is coming. For someone like you, who clearly thinks so deeply and analyzes life so thoroughly, I can imagine how resonant the idea of just letting go must be. Hearing how the song soundtracked your own reflections means the world to me. It’s the greatest gift as a songwriter to know that something I wrote from a very vulnerable place found a home in someone else’s journey.
You mentioned that it would be nice to meet, and I genuinely agree. It’s rare to connect with someone who cares so much about the weight of words and the pursuit of truth. My schedule is always a bit of a whirlwind these days, but if I’m ever playing a show in Michigan and our paths happen to cross, I would absolutely love to say hi and hear more about your writing.
Thank you again for listening, for reading, and for sharing your mind with me. Keep asking the hard questions, Chris.
Warmly,
Gracie
