He Still Speaks: Tuning Your Heart to God in a Noisy World

I’ve recently been going through the study Experiencing God: Knowing & Doing the Will of God by the Blackabys and Claude V. King, and a recent lesson really struck a chord with me. Day 4 focuses on a simple but profound truth: God Speaks. As the page says, “God has not changed. He still speaks to His people.” It’s a beautiful reminder, but walking that out in our daily lives can be a profound challenge.
Here are a few things God has been laying on my heart through this study and my own recent reflections.

The Tension of the Present Moment

God speaks patience. I hear that over and over again in my spirit. He calls us toward contentment and peace. Yet, if I am completely honest, I often remain unsettled in the present moment.
When I look back, His activity is undeniable. I can clearly see how God lifted me out of the depths when I was deeply struggling. I can see how He gracefully walked right beside me when I was lost in confusion and unbelief. But when you are in the thick of the battle, it is so easy to cry out, “Where is God?” It is often only in the rearview mirror that the picture becomes clear.

Tuning Out the Noise

We are taught that God speaks through:

• The Holy Spirit
• The Bible
• The Church
• Our Circumstances
  But let’s be real—the world is unbelievably loud. The desires of the flesh are strong, and we are surrounded by a culture of instant gratification.
  Knowing and doing the will of God requires a keen ear and serious discipline. It takes discipline to ignore the temptations that offer a quick reward but ultimately lead to long-term strife.

The True Purpose of Obedience

One of the biggest shifts in my perspective has been understanding why we obey. Obedience isn’t just about trying to please God or following a set of rules. God desires obedience to put your heart in a position where you are able to do His will. It is about getting your heart right. We live in a world full of lies and deception, constantly battling an adversary of darkness. If our hearts aren’t positioned correctly through obedience, we will easily be swept away by the noise.

Looking Back with Gratitude

Even when the present moment feels uncertain, we have a history of grace to lean on. When the world feels too loud, we can look back, bow our heads, and be overwhelmingly thankful.

• Thankful for all the times He pulled us through.
• Thankful for the angels guiding us and the saints helping us along the way.
• Thankful for Jesus Christ, who sacrificed everything so that we might have eternal life.
  Even when we feel unsettled, we are held. May we all find the patience to listen for His voice today, resting in the eternal love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
