Remembering the Great Mick Francis: A Coach, A Friend, and A Legend

As we continue to mourn the loss of the great Mick Francis, we also celebrate his life and the impact he had on all of us. He may no longer be with us physically, but his legacy and spirit will forever live on in our hearts and memories.

Mick Francis was more than just a coach to the Hopkins Vikings football team. He was a mentor, a friend, and a father figure to many of us. His passion for the game was evident in every practice and game, but it was his love for his players that truly set him apart from other coaches.

One of the things that made Mick so special was his love for pizza. He always said that he would prefer to have pop over beer when enjoying a slice of pizza. And we all know that he loved his pizza. So today, as we remember him, let’s imagine him in heaven, smoking a cigarette and drinking a nice glass of pop, with a pile of pizzas next to him.

Mick always wanted the best for his players, both on and off the field. He taught us the importance of hard work, dedication, and teamwork. But more than that, he showed us how friendship is powering Hopkins Vikings football. He believed that a strong bond between teammates was crucial for success on the field.

And he wasn’t just a coach to us, he was a friend. He had a way of making each and every one of us feel seen and heard. Whether it was through his motivational speeches or his one-on-one conversations, Mick always made time for his players. He was always there to listen and offer words of encouragement.

We were fortunate enough to have not just one, but two great coaches at Hopkins High School – Mr. Newell and Mr. Weaver – who were also good friends with Mick. They were like a trio of coaches who complemented each other perfectly. They shared the same values and instilled them in us through their coaching. And even though they were all equally great, Mick will always hold a special place in our hearts.

As we think back to our time with Mick, we can’t help but smile and be grateful for the memories we have with him. From his infamous pre-game speeches to his sideline dance moves, he always knew how to make us laugh and keep us motivated. He showed us that football isn’t just about winning, it’s about having fun and creating lifelong friendships.

Mick was not just a coach for the Hopkins Vikings football team, but for the entire community. He was known for his involvement in youth sports and was a positive role model for many kids. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge and love for the game.

So as we continue to pray for Mick and honor his memory, let’s also remember to celebrate his life and the impact he had on all of us. And if by any chance, he doesn’t have enough pizza in heaven, we’ll make sure to send a Domino’s or CD’s Pizza straight to him. Because if anyone deserves to indulge in their favorite food, it’s Mick Francis.
