🌲 A Mackinac Island Escape 🌲

July 25, 2026

Welcome back to A Personal Elenchus.
Hey everyone, Chris here. We are currently soaking in the magic of Mackinac Island this beautiful July afternoon. There is truly nothing quite like the charm of this place—no cars, just the clip-clop of horse hooves, the ringing of bicycle bells, and the fresh breeze off Lake Huron.
This weekend, I have the absolute pleasure of playing tour guide for the girls, taking my mom, my aunt, and our wonderful friend Terri up here for a getaway. It has been a fantastic trip full of catching up, exploring, and me carrying plenty of shopping bags.
Here is a quick recap of our perfect island day so far:

☘️ Lunch at the Irish Pub

We kicked off our afternoon with a much-needed stop at the local Irish pub. After a morning of walking, taking in the historic sights, and dodging bicycles, sitting down to some hearty comfort food was exactly what everyone needed. We shared plenty of laughs and fueled up for the rest of the day.

🛍️ Strolling and Shopping

You simply can’t come to Mackinac Island without hitting the shops on Main Street! We spent a good couple of hours wandering in and out of the boutiques.

  • The Boutiques: The girls found some gorgeous local crafts and charming souvenirs.
  • The Treats: We definitely had to stop and watch the island’s famous fudge being made (and bought a few slices, of course).

🌊 Unwinding at the Iroquois Hotel

Right now, I am writing this to you all while sitting outside the stunning Iroquois Hotel. The four of us are just relaxing on the patio, watching the water sparkle under the afternoon sun. The ferries are coming and going, the sailboats are drifting by, and the view of the Straits of Mackinac is absolutely breathtaking.
It’s moments like these—just sitting back, sharing stories, and enjoying the view with family and good friends—that make these Michigan trips so incredibly special.
Until next time,
Chris Nylaan
